‘Stories as social infrastructure’ is a smart and beautifully expressed thought. Our society is built on the stories we tell: about ourselves, others, our leaders, who and what we do and don’t want to be. Thank you boiling it down to that phrase.
And all around the world, the WGA picket lines are supported.
Mickey, Great newsletter this week. As the secretary for NABET22 please let all writers you encounter on the picket line know that the National Association of Broadcast Engineers & Technician are with them. We are an east coast union of TV station workers.
We stand with you! I Stand with YOU! I keep the shows you write on the air. So, you can tell your stories.
And I might be out of a job soon thanks to a new automation system coming in. In over 36 years in radio & tv this will be my 4th “downsizing.”
When one door closes another opens. Which is why I write everyday. And I thank everyone of you on the line. Who helps keep this 60 year old’s dream alive.
Thank You Mickey. Thank You All. God Bless, Overnite JOE.
Joe, thank you so much! And I hate to hear that you're facing another potential downsizing. It's not right, I feel like automation is coming for so many jobs and this fight for the WGA has opened my eyes to a lot more of it. We appreciate you and when the time comes let me know how I can help amplify the voices of NABET22!!
Mickey, wanted to give you a update. I have been working part-time at the NBC affiliate for the past year since I lost me full time job at the CBS affiliate. (Also thanks to automation.) Hoping to go full time. That is until the new automation system came in. I had a meeting with my bosses the other day and I am being cut down to two overnites a week instead of three. I didn’t lose my job, but my hours have been cut. Looking at the glass half full this will give me more time to write….We are having a union meeting next week. I will bring up that I have contacted some writers via social media and told them about NABET22’s (Our local chapter) NABET and the CWA support. Best of luck on the picket line. JOE.

Ah, man. I’m sorry to hear your hours have been cut. Let me know how the union meeting goes!
Thank you for this. I appreciate you putting your heart on the picket line.
Thank you!!
....and Mookie responded with, "I got it. I'm gone." Keep the faith, Mickey. Solidarity from the Mountains.
Love to the mountains! If this ends in time I'm determined to get out there soon. Thank you!
Beautiful memories. Storytelling matters. Thanks for clearly explaining what’s at stake in this fight! Sharing.
Grayson, thank you so much for reading and sharing! Sending love to you and the family!
